The final IFSC Paraclimbing World Cup event of the season began today in Villars, Switzerland, as the sport classes settled qualification into the finals with the hope of claiming the last gold of the 2022 season.
There were 109 athletes across 15 sport classes in action with the visually impaired athletes kicking off the competition on a cool Swiss morning.
MEN’S B1
In the men’s B1 Aita Sho of Japan set the standard impressively topping both routes. He will be the favourite to take gold but Francisco Javier Aguilar Amoedo of Spain and Razvan Nedu of Romania will be out to stop him.

MEN’S B2
Great Britain’s Richard Slocock leads qualification against his rivals from Spain and Romania. He will contest the final with the two Spanish athletes Raul Simon Franco and Guillermo Pelegrín Gómez as Valentin-Laurentiu Moise of Romania misses out.

MEN’S B3 
Cosmin Florin Candoi of Romania had a strong qualifying on the Men’s B3 topping both routes. Chaz Misuraca of Canada also topped route 1 and with a 38+ on route 2 also makes the final. They will be joined by Lux Losey Sail of Great Britain.

WOMEN’S B2
Great Britain’s Abigail Robinson was another athlete topping two routes to make finals. Another four competitors topped route 1 but it is Edith Scheinecker of Germany and Nadia Bredice of Italy who make it through.

WOMEN’S B3
There were no tops in the women’s B3 but there was strong, evenly matched competition. Ionela Grecu of Romania goes through to the finals in first position joined by France’s Melissa Cesarone and Roxane Heili and Norway’s Iben Jongsvik Paulsen.

MEN’S AL1
There is a guaranteed full Austrian podium in the men’s AL1 as Angelino Zeller, Markus Pösendorfer and Daniel Kontsch all made it through to the finals. Zeller looks the one to beat with two strong climbs in qualification.

MEN’S AL2
Three men made the top in the AL2 class and advance to the final – they are Julien Gasc of France, Albert Guardia Ferrer of Spain and Frederik Leys of Belgium. Despite not making a top, Spain’s Iván Germán Pascual had two strong routes to qualify in third place.

WOMEN’S AL2
Two tops from Lucie Jarrige puts the French climber into the final of the women’s AL2. Rachel Maia of New Zealand also topped and advances. They will be joined by Australian Sarah Larcombe and American Hannah McFadden.

MEN’S AU2
Two tops put Germany’s Kevin Bartke into the AU2 final where he will meet Isak Ripman of Norway who topped route 1. The other final spot was taken by Erwan Lievin of France.

WOMEN’S AU2
Another French athlete with two tops was Solenne Piret. Lucia Capovilla of Italy also made the top of route 1 and will join Piret in the final with Giovanna Dubuc of USA.

MEN’S RP1
There was only one top in the men’s RP2 and that was from Korbinian Franck of Germany. The German will be joined in the final by compatriot Tim Schaffrinna and Gian Matteo Ramini of Italy.

MEN’S RP2
Spain’s Iván Muñoz Escolar topped route 1 to finish in first place and qualify for the RP2 final. Mor Michael Sapir of Israel, Benjamin Mayforth of USA and Manikandan Kumar of India will join him.

MEN’S RP3
Jamie Barendrecht of the Netherland’s was the only climber to top in the RP3 and qualifies in first for the finals. Bastien Thomas of France qualified in second with Andrej Haršány of Slovakia third and Danial Amiri of Iran in fourth.

WOMEN’S RP1
Both Jasmin Plank of Austria and Melissa Ruiz of USA topped route 1 of the women’s RP1 and make it through to the final. Joining them will be the Spanish pair of Andrea Sánchez Aparicio and Marta Peche Salinero.

WOMEN’S RP3 
There were ten athletes that topped route 2 in the women’s RP3 but only one managed to top both. Germany’s Rosalie Schaupert goes through to finals in top spot with her two tops and is joined by Christiane Luttikhuizen of the Netherlands and British pair Leanora Volpe and Martha Evans from the highly contested class.

The finals will take place at 4:00PM (UTC+2:00) tomorrow when the medallists will be crowned and the 2022 season will come to a close for the Paraclimbing athletes.
