The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and the Federación Ecuatoriana de Andinismo y Escalada (FEDAN), with the support of Olympic Solidarity, organised the first of three World Climbing Academy courses for routesetters in Ibarra, Ecuador.
A total of 12 participants, including five women, from six different countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela – participated in the IFSC Routsetters’ Clinic, which was coordinated by IFSC Consultant Toni Roy, and conducted by IFSC Chief Routesetter and Trainer Matthias Woitzuck, and IFSC Trainer Assistant Mauro Schwasta.
The course had the goal of providing national routesetters with the knowledge and skills to better support their national teams in preparation of competitions, and improve their level of competition setting. It kicked off with an online meeting, taking place one week before the start of the in-person event, with both theory and practice sessions scheduled on each of the four days.
Furthermore, the course is meant to be part of a bigger development plan for Climbing in South America, supporting Member Federations in the region by addressing specific issues, and creating a network of South American experts that can mutually support each other.
FEDAN President José Moreano Díaz commented: “I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Olympic Solidarity for their support in the organisation of the Routesetters’ Clinic, and to the IFSC for selecting Ecuador and the FEDAN to host this fantastic event.”
